So where does the money of this fundraiser go to?

The money of this goes directly to building community spaces in Samos: 

The Greek island of Samos lies barely two kilometres off the coast of Turkey making it a favoured destination of attempted crossings of people on the move fleeing from war, poverty and persecution. 

In early 2016, refugee camp Vathy was established on Samos with a capacity for 650 people, but reached a population of almost 8,000 people in December of 2019. Over the past two and a half years, Movement On The Ground has played an active role in relieving the situation together with and for the refugees living in and around Vathy camp.

Now, Vathy camp is set to close and the remaining population will be transferred to a newly built Reception and Identification Centre on the island. In line with our Camp to campUs approach, Movement on the Ground will provide services and programs to improve the living conditions of the camp.

Help us create community spaces!

We aim to construct several inspiring, colourful, and relaxing community areas for the residents that will live in the newly built camp on Samos. We will construct shaded KalosTea community spaces with a chai point, books, and games where children and adults from the community can come to relax, learn, and play.
