Positive progress on Samos 💪

In late April, close to 400 people living in and around Vathy camp lost their tents and makeshift constructions to devastating fires. Having witnessed the devastating aftermath of this incident, we promised to play a role in assisting the fire recovery process.
Over the past month, our team on Samos have been working together with camp management to clean the surrounding areas affected by the fire. Using funds donated through our #CampNL campaign, we have also been able to financially support Doctors Without Borders in their recovery of the damaged areas inside Vathy camp.
The clean up that we have been operating has largely been lead by our resident volunteers. They have been cleaning the waste from the fire-affected areas in the outskirts of Vathy camp in order to make room for the return of residents who lost their shelters and also to improve the environmental conditions of the area.
It has been a trying time on Samos, but the compassion, solidarity and sense of community that has followed the fires is truly a heartwarming thing to see and be a part of.
