Helping refugees acquire digital skills

We are four Cisco Amsterdam employees who are committed and passionate about giving back. Together with Movement on the Ground, we will spend one week in a Refugee Camp in Lesbos, Greece, to help residents to get better digital knowledge. The four of us have developed the lessons’ content and we will deliver it in the week of September 16, to different groups in the Technology Lab of Movement on the Ground.

Next to this project, Movement On The Ground has many other projects and is doing great things in the camp, but we all need to help so that can continue. Therefore we are staring this campaign to raise funds.

With our volunteering and fundraising efforts, we aim to:
- Keep the Education & Community Center ‘Ergon’ up and running: Ergon is a space that allows residents to be in an environment where they are welcomed, educated, and connected to the local community.
- Involve camp residents in running programs: By engaging residents as teachers, translators, or assistants, they use their skills to shape the program, develop themselves, and develop others.
- Promote skills development and qualifications of residents of the camp.

Who We Are:
- Alexandra Visser, is a Red Cross volunteer (Ready-to-help and Education Group) and has been involved in many volunteering activities over the years.
- Oscar Monge, is looking to share the knowledge acquired throughout his career in cybersecurity and IT to foster new technology interests in the participants.
- Marc Theloosen. With the continued increase of refugees Marc is looking forward to enabling refugees fleeing for their lives with the digitals skills that are necessary in today’s life in Europe
- Celia Goudsmit – Gomes Veiga, is very passionate (and active) about giving back. Celia is the Ambassador for Movement On The Ground at Cisco and can’t wait to see this project happen and make an impact at the students they will teach.
