The journey towards dignity for all

When I was on Lesvos last December I was shocked to see the dire situation in which people had to life. At the same time I was impressed by the relentless commitment of Movement on the Ground to bring back dignity. It is hopeful to see that a small number of people can have a huge positive impact on the lives of those who are the most vulnerable and need our help the most. Donate to my fundraiser and help support Movement On The Ground's programs and services for the refugee and local population on Lesvos and Samos.

You can create your own personalized poster to draw attention to this fundraising page. After printing the poster you can hang it in a shop, a café window or a community bulletin board. Ask your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors to help and also put up a poster in their home, school or work place. Most people are willing to help but be sure to ask permission first.

Waar wij dan 100 mensen van opnemen in Nederland, het is beschamend :'(

Safe at home again

05-10-2020 | 18:06 Yesterday I flew back to The Netherlands, back home to a 10-day quarantine. With my flight home, my personal journey towards dignity for all has come to an end. It's sad to conclude but the road ahead remains long. The residents on Lesvos are and will continue to be confronted by many challenges. Given the scale of the humanitarian crisis it may sound crazy but I did enjoy my stay on the island and I already miss being part of a collection of individuals who refuse to accept that human beings are treated in an undignified way. The only consolation is that the team members of Movement On The Ground will keep building the road towards dignity. Day by day, brick by brick. I will especially miss working with the many inspiring international volunteers and the resilient resident volunteers. Even though the resident volunteers all have troubled lives and traumatic pasts, they were dedicated to help the community forward. They showed up. Every day and in good spirits. I take my hat off for them. I will have to process everything I have witnessed. For now, I want to thank everyone who supported me during my journey. The only thing I ask of you is: please don't forget about the residents on Lesvos and don't forget about all the other displaced persons in the world. Let's keep marching with them. Because every individual deserves a safe place, a place to call home again.
